Proverbs 12:1: “Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge, but he who hates correction is stupid.”
Proverbs 15:32 “He who ignores discipline despises himself, but whoever heeds correction gains understanding.”
How meaningful these verses are!
Life as a Christian is certainly not easy. It is full of trials and temptations. The enemy only looks for that one chance to make us stumble. He loves to shake our faith and often tells us (in our thoughts) not to trust God completely. He also makes our problems appear so much bigger than they really are!
But despite all this, our hope is eternal. The devil has already been defeated by the finished work of Jesus. When we choose to walk with God, trusting Him despite the tribulations, we place our hope in Him. As we grow in the Lord, it becomes our hearts’ desire to please Him and honor Him.
The Holy Spirit of the Lord helps us and guides us in all that we do, as we walk with the Lord. He also convicts us when we think, do or say something wrong. But many a times, the voice of the “self” in us or perhaps the voice of the enemy is so loud that we cannot hear the voice of God. In such cases, God might use a fellow Christian to correct us. We can know the authenticity of this correction, by checking if it is in line with the Word of God.
We must also remind ourselves that all correction for our good is done in love. Imagine, if you have a friend, who claims that he/she loves you and advises you to take drugs or indulge you into unclean practices, you can be 100% sure that he/she does not love you.
So, my friends, the next time, if some one corrects you, please check its relevance with the Word of God before taking the correction in a negative spirit, as God often uses His people to reveal His will. Our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit, God lives in us; let’s keep our bodies free from sin. Seek God first and be willing to submit to Him. Let’s repent, humble and search ourselves and be filled with the Word and the Spirit of God.
Let’s be open to correction. May the Lord be with you.
